The Director General of the United Nations Development Program UNDP, Achim Steiner, confirmed today (Sunday) the commitment of the United Nations system to assist Sudan, especially in the areas of humanitarian and development aid. 

The visiting UNDP Chief affirmed that   his agency is determined to provide capacity-building  support to Sudan in the center and the peripheries to enable the government to carry out all the tasks required during the  transitional period. 

 Speaking after  his meeting with  Prime Minister, Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk, at the latter’s office in the Council of Ministers, Mr. Steiner said  the meeting focused on the work of UNDP in Sudan and  its support to the government during the transition period.  

He explained that It’s his  first-ever visit to Sudan , adding  that the visit represents a stand of solidarity with Sudan and the transitional  government. Meanwhile UNDP chief affirmed his agency’s strong interest to assist and support Sudan in all fields to enable Sudan’s   transition to democracy and good governance as well as fulfilling the glorious aspirations of the revolution.

For his part, Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk affirmed Sudan’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the United Nations Development Program.
