March 2, 2020 (Khartoum) The Ministry of Culture and Information in Sudan, has announced that the Public Prosecutor began its investigations into publication of a newspaper article that contained racist expressions against a coach of a women’s football team.
Sudanese newspaper Al-Intibaha published in its Friday issue, a column by Hajj Ali Saleh about women playing soccer. The article contains abuses and racial discrimination against the coach of the football team.
In a related development, a women association known as ( new women of Sudan) condemned the newspaper for publishing the humiliating article.
The women group, referred to the paper as the mouthpiece of the former regime, calling on the authorities to immediately closedown the newspaper and investigate its staff for allowing publication of such articles.
The Ministry of Culture and Information said in a statement on its Facebook page, on Monday, that the Public Prosecution had begun investigating the case.
The newspaper had apologized for what was reported in the column and considered it an unintended mistake, and promised to investigate the matter.
For his part, deputy chairman of SPLM-N-Agar , Yasir Arman called on women activists and political activists in civil and political organizations to raise issues of racism, stop bullying against women, stop racist rhetoric of the previous regime, alongside promoting values of national unity as well as work hard to build a new Sudan.
