The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, issued a call for a ceasefire in conflict-affected areas around the world, calling on the warring parties to stop armed conflicts, engage in dialogue, facilitate humanitarian access, and devote all efforts to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Joint Special Representative of UNAMID, Jeremiah Mamabolo refered to the Sudanese peace talks taking place in Juba, indicating the respect of the transitional government and the Revolutionary Front for the cessation of hostilities agreement signed between them on October 21, 2019, by the parties in the conflict areas in Sudan.

Jeremiah Mamabolo said that the United Nations encourages this commitment, adding, “I repeat what UN Secretary-General, “I urge the Sudanese parties to recognize the seriousness of the situation which the Secretary-General described as the real battle in our lives, and to reach a comprehensive peace agreement at the earliest time.”

Mama Polo, appealed to Abdel Wahed Al-Nour, commander of the Sudan Liberation Army, to join the peace process, because the epidemic of the Coronavirus requires a completely united front to contain it and save lives,” and I stand with the Sudanese people at this critical moment and assure him of UNAMID support”.
