April 24, 2020 (Nyala) Governor of South Darfur, Major General Hashim Khalid Mahmoud has issued directives  to close the state’s borders with neighboring states and the entrances to the state capital, Nyala, beside stoping travel within the  state’s  localities to prevent the spread of Covid-19  pandemic.

However, the decision to close the border,  comes within the framework of  the precautionary measures taken by the government of South Darfur to address the Coronavirus pandemic, at a time when Sudan has so far recorded  162 confirmed case, including 13 deaths and 14 recoveries.

The orders  also  stipulated  prevention of crowds and gathering  throughout the state.

Moreover, the decision excluded hospitals ,  health centers, alongside pharmacies, bakeries, as well as cooking gas distribution centers and  drinking water wells.

Violators will be punished with up to 3 months’ imprisonment, or a fine of 10 thousand pounds, or both.
