May 30, 2020 (El-Fashir) The United Nations and African Union Mission
in Darfur (UNAMID) has reported two cases of infection with the
Coroanavirus among passengers on one of its planes that left Darfur on
Wednesday to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
In a press statement on Thursday, the mission expressed its regret
that two of the passengers on board its  flight from its logistic base
in El Fasher to Nairobi last Wednesday had tested positive for
coronavirus, after being tested for COVID-19,   upon their arrival at
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
According to the statement, the plane was carrying 14 UNAMID staff,
the United Nations country team and NGOs, including a number of UNAMID
staff who chose to leave the mission voluntarily because they had
prior health conditions that would make them more vulnerable in the
event of Covid-19 infection, in particular under conditions of field
work.
However, UNAMID has begun to activate the mandatory procedures for
tracking its staff who have  contacted COVID-19 patients.
