September 24, 2020 (Elfashir) The Ministry of Health and Social Development in North Darfur announced Thursday that it had recorded 51 new cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis.

However, Ministry of Health in South Darfur had previously announced an outbreak of the disease in a number of areas east of Jebel Marra, in light of the deterioration of health services.

Director-General of Health in North Darfur, Dr. Mujtabi Al-Tajani Yusef, said that his ministry had monitored, during the past few days, an increase in the number of cases of the disease in the localities of
Kutum, Tawila and Al-Tawila.

confirmed the arrival of a delegation from the Department of Malaria and Leishmania at the Federal Ministry of Health to visit the aforementioned areas and provide urgent vaccinations for the patients.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is the most common form of leishmaniasis affecting humans. It is a skin infection caused by a single-celled parasite that is transmitted by the bite of a phlebotomine sandfly.
There are about twenty species of Leishmania that may cause cutaneous leishmaniasis.
