Protesters took to the streets Monday, in Nyala , the capital of South Darfur State demonstrating over price hike  and scarcity of basic commodities.

However, the angry demonstrators set up barricades in tarmac roads and burned tires,  halting traffic in Sudan’s second largest   city.

While police used tear gas to disperse protesters and closed all roads leading to the Nyala Grand Market.

State Security Committee  announced yesterday evening the suspension of studies in the primary and secondary schools  until further notice.   Yesterday, a number of Sudanese cities witnessed violent protests that led to burning, looting and destruction of governmental and private institutions.  At the same time, South Darfur police sent security reinforcements to the city of Raheed Al-Bardi 145 kilometers west of the city of Nyala, the state capital, after yesterday witnessed demonstrations protesting the high prices
