Port Sudan, July 30(Darfur240  Head of the Supreme Council for Beja native administration, Muhammad Al-Amin Turk, has said he will declare the right to self-determination in eastern Sudan in the event that the Sudanese government fail to implement the outcomes of the Sankat Conference.

 

Addressing his supporters at the conclusion of the  second Sankat Conference on Friday, in  the suburb of Khartoum, the controversial tribal leader ,gave the government a four-month period, which he described as sufficient to implement the recommendation of the conference.

 

“In the event that the decisions of the first Sankat Conference  which was held two years ago are not implemented, the right of self-determination for eastern Sudan and the Beja state will be announced” Turk said .

 

The decisions of the first Sankat Conference of the Supreme Council of Beja native administration which was held following the Sudan Peace Agreement that was signed in Juba in October 2020,stipulated the abolition of the eastern path approved by the agreement,  implementation of the recommendation of the “Qawlid”,  agreement signed between the Beja and Bani Amer tribes, and a review of Sudanese nationality and identity papers.

 

In September of last year, the Supreme Council of the Beja  closed the Red Sea ports and the road linking Khartoum and Port Sudan for a period of 45 days
