Nyala, September 12(Darfur24) The Nyala Criminal Court in South Darfur has convicted one of the defendants in the murder of 15 anti-narcotics forces in Sengo area last year and acquitted 14 others.

The court sentenced to death   defendant  A. A. R, who belongs to the armed forces, after it was proven that he had shot a member of the anti-drug force.

14 anti-narcotics policemen were killed and 14 others were wounded in an ambush by gunmen in the Sengo area 350 km south of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur.

They were in mission in May 2021 as part of an annual campaign to exterminate the cannabi drug farms for which the region is famous, and after the incident, the government sent joint forces, and arrested 29 defendants, the court acquitted  14 of them.

While the court convicted 5 defendants of the crimes of burning the headquarters of the anti-narcotic forces , the officers’ residence, and two cars in the Sengo area under Article 21/182 of the Sudanese Criminal Code.

The court set the 20th of this month to pronounce the verdict and to give the families of the murdered policemen an opportunity to determine  (Diya ) blood money or retribution.
