Khartoum, June 5(Darfur 24 ) To date, more than 13,800 women and children have crossed the borders with the Central African Republic escaping the on-going fighting in Sudan. The women and children are living in Am-Dafock, in the Vakaga Prefecture, northern CAR where the situation is already quite fragile.

Earlier this week, the CNR & UNHCR began the relocation of the refugees and returnees of Central African origins to a site in Birao.

More than 120 MT of supplies have been sent to Birao to date. UNICEF began the distribution of the prepositioned stacks of NFI kits and water purification tablets, among other relief items to the populations in Am-Dafock

 

The number of people coming from Sudan expected to increase as the security situation in Nyala remains volatile and registration is underway, including consolidation of lists between Government partners and the UNHCR.

UNICEF deployed two staff on the ground to coordinate the response with the government and UN & NGO partners ad is signing partnerships with NGOs & INGOs in Am-Dafock to ensure the delivery of services.

An additional 60 MT of emergency relief items were sent to Birao, bringing the total of supplies to 120 MT since the beginning of the crisis
