Nyala, 22June(Darfur 24) Armed men wearing civilian clothes on four wheel drive vehicles, stormed and looted Thursday the second largest market in Nyala, South Darfur, also locality known as the (people’s market)

The looting of the market comes at the backdrop of bloody clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary rapid support forces RSF on Tuesday..

Eyewitness, Mohamed Hafiz told Darfur 24 that armed men on 4by4 vehicles stormed the market that located in the southern part of the city , looted the stores and drove southward .

“Neither the Sudanese army nor RSF intervened to protect the market from looters despite proximity of their bases from the market.Hafiz added”

Following the looting, ransacking and burning of Nyala grand market, traders and their clients shifted to the (people’s market) in southern part of the city, because it was then safe to do business.

Confrontations between the Sudanese army and RSF renewed Tuesday in Nyala and continued till Wednesday evening, leaving 7 civilians dead and others injured, bringing civilian death toll in Nyala to 107 and over 500 wounded since fighting between the two generals erupted mid-April
