Khartoum, July 7 (Darfur24)Sources associated with Alsharg news agency said the four member committee of the intergovernmental authority for development IGAD, which includes Kenya, republic of South Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti has invited chairman of Sudan’s sovereignty council, lieutenant general Alburhan and commander of the rapid support forces RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo for direct talks in an attempt to break the deadlock and and pave the way for ending conflict in Sudan.

According to the source, IGAD has set Monday, July 10 as a date for the two Generals meeting in the Ethiopia capital, Addis Ababa, while the rivals have not issued their response to the invitation yet.

IGAD had previously proposed a meeting between Hemeti and Al-Burhan , but the latter said he wouldn’t meet Hemeti in light of the current circumstances.

IGAD efforts to resolve the root causes of the conflict in Sudan hasn’t stopped since eruption of the war mid-April.

IGAD foreign minister issued statement after their meeting in Djibouti on June 19 to draw a roadmap pertaining to resolving the crisis in Sudan, but the Sudanese army refused the initiative, citing Kenya bias with RSF, calling for IGAD chairmanship to be handed over to South Sudan as a neutral party.
