New York, September (Darfur 24) Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Support Mission in Sudan UNITAMS , Volker Peretz, has submitted his resignation to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

Volcker’s resignation came while he was presenting his third-quarter report of the current year regarding the situation in Sudan before the UN Security Council on Wednesday.

Volcker said in his speech: Allow me to alert you here so that you are not surprised when you hear me approaching the end of my briefing. It is with great sadness that I announce that this will be my last briefing to the Security Council in my tour of my current mission, and that I have asked the Secretary-General to excuse me from this.

Adding: “Let me say at this point that I took this step in full coordination and with the support of the Secretary-General, for whose support I am particularly grateful in recent months.”

Volcker faced continuous objections from the Sudanese government to his presence at the head of the UNTAMS mission, and the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, informed the Secretary-General of the United Nations immediately after the outbreak of the April 15 war that Volcker was persona non grata .
