The Minister of Finance, Dr. Gabriel Ibrahim, has   called on customs authority to exert more efforts to stop the smuggling of gold.

Speaking after his brief visit to Sudanese Customs Authority in Khartoum on Thursday, Gabriel said   Sudan produces large quantities of gold, but a big part of these amounts leave the country through informal channels through smuggling.

“Customs authority have to use the law and technical aids that enable them to seize foreign currencies, gold and all goods that are smuggled out” Gibreil added.

However, Khartoum airport customs managed to seize 19 kilograms and of gold, 137,300 Saudi riyals, in addition to large quantities of drugs and hallucinogenic pills, all hidden inside clothes, bags, cylinders and cosmetics.

With regard to unregistered vehicles , the Minister of Finance stressed the need to take very strict measures that do not allow the entry of new cars, while he  refused to comment on   drop of Sudanese pound against  foreign currencies.

The newly appointed minister of finance issued a decree stopping all customs and tax exemptions for the purpose of subjecting them to review.
