Nyala, October 27(Darfur 24) The second commander of the Rapid Support Forces RSF , Lieutenant General Abdul Rahim Dagalo, has announced arrangements to manage the affairs of South Darfur state following the capturing of the 16th Infantry Division Headquarters in Nyala by RSF on Thursday.

Addressing his troops in a video filmed from within 16th Infantry Division HQ, Abdul Rahim Dagalo appointed Major General Bashir Adam Issa as Director of the Nyala Police, and RSF South Darfur Sector Commander as Commander of the 16 infantry Division in South Darfur, entrusting them with the responsibility of securing residents.

He directed that police duties be fully restored and that they exercise all their powers to protect citizens.

Abdul Rahim Dagalo also called on prosecutors to return to their positions to carry out their duties.

He called on the civil administration and civil society in the state to assume their historical responsibility for managing their city – he said – and also called on the citizens of the city of Nyala to return to their homes, and said that they will strive in the coming hours to provide security for citizens, open markets, and return life to normal.

Dagalo called on the armed struggle forces to form a joint force with RSF to secure the states under RSF control to establish security and stability.

RSF second commander announced that any soldier from the Rapid Support Forces would not be present outside three locations inside the city, and he directed to deal decisively with any gunman present outside the designated locations as a fifth column, he said.

On Thursday RSF seized control of the 16th Infantry Division after months of steadfastness and fierce fighting between the two rival forces which led to the killing of hundreds of residents of the city of Nyala, displacement of thousands to other cities, and widespread destruction of infrastructure and service facilities.

The Rapid Support took control of the largest command of the Sudanese army in the west of the country, amid reports of the withdrawal of the division commander, Major General Hussein Jawdat and his soldiers.
