El Geneina , November 1(Darfur 24) Since yesterday, fierce battles have been taking place in the city of El Geneina, the provincial capital of Western Darfur State between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF, in which all types of heavy weapons were used.

According to the Darfur 24 correspondent, the battles between the two sides left civilians dead, but they were not counted due to the continuation of the confrontations until the moment of writing the news.

At a time when Darfur 24 learned that battles broke out immediately after the arrival of the second commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahim Dagalo, coming from the city of Zalingei after he led combat operations to seize it and the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, last week.

RSF Forces are trying to tighten their control over the Darfur region after subduing the largest army command in Nyala, which is the central command of the army in western Sudan, in addition to the command in Zalingei and a number of garrisons in local governments.

The confrontations between the two sides were preceded by short negotiations for the army’s surrender and its leadership to be handed over to RSFin an attempt to spare the city from entering into battles, but it seems that they did not succeed.

In the first months of the war between the army and the RSF the city of El Geneina witnessed violent fighting that developed into ethnic confrontations between the Arab tribes supporting the RSF, the Masalit tribe, and the Sudanese coalition militias led by the former governor of West Darfur, Khamis Abkar, who was assassinated in those battles last June.

Previous acts of violence led to the deaths of thousands of Residents, the displacement of tens of thousands to Chadian territory, and the destruction of large parts of the city and its infrastructure.

The Darfur 24 correspondent from El Geneina quoted eyewitnesses as saying that residents of the areas adjacent to the army command in the Erdamta region have been displaced since yesterday evening to the central and northern neighborhoods of the city.
