On January 18, the African Union formed a high-level committee concerned with Sudan, working with the warring military parties, civilian forces, and regional and international bodies, to ensure a comprehensive process towards the rapid restoration of the government of Sudan, peace and constitutional order.
The committee was formed after the military-controlled government decided to suspend cooperation with IGAD regarding efforts to end the war, in protest against Sudan’s inclusion in its extraordinary summit held in Uganda without consulting it.
On the sidelines of the extraordinary IGAD summit, the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, held meetings with the leaders of the organization.
