Port Sudan , March( Darfur 24)

On Sunday, the African Union AU high-level mechanism for restoring stability in Sudan informed the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, of the results of its movements in the past period.

On March 12, the mechanism concluded its first round of consultations with active Sudanese forces inside and outside the country and with the regional community, which focused on the necessity of resolving the conflict through peaceful means.

Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan met with the delegation of the High-Level African Mechanism on Sudan, headed by Mohamed Ibn Chambas, in the presence of Foreign Minister-designate Ali Al-Sadiq.

The designated Foreign Minister said, in a press statement, that the visit to the mechanism aims to “inform the President of the Sovereign Council of the efforts undertaken by the mechanism in this regard in order to formulate a vision for a solution that will be presented to all parties and lead to achieving peace and stability in the country.”

He pointed out that the head of the mechanism held meetings during the last period with leaders of political parties and civil society organizations in Cairo, Addis Ababa and others, where he reviewed visions and ideas regarding stopping the war and restoring peace and stability in Sudan.

On March 3, during his meeting with the mechanism, Al-Burhan stipulated the acceptance of the mechanism’s solutions to restore Sudan’s membership in the African Union, which it had suspended since the coup he carried out with his current rival, Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti,” commander of the Rapid Support Forces.

Last January 17, the African Union Commission formed a high-level mechanism, led by the High Representative for Silencing the Guns, Mohammed Ibn Chambas, that works on all parties concerned with the Sudan crisis in order to ensure a comprehensive process to restore peace.
