March 2, 2020 (Khartoum) Feminist entities and Sudanese political leaders, have denounced a Sudanese newspaper for publishing an article, by one of its writers that contains racist expressions against a coach of a women soccer team in Sudan.
The newspaper published in its Friday issue, an abusive column by Hajj Ali Saleh, about women playing soccer. However, the writer used racist words against the female football team coach .
In a related development, a women association known as ( new women of Sudan) condemned the newspaper for publishing the humiliating article. The women group, referred to the paper as the mouthpiece of the former regime, calling on the authorities to immediately closedown the newspaper and investigate its staff for allowing publication of such articles.
The statement appealed to all feminist organizations to support the coach in suing the newspaper and the columnist.
The newspaper had apologized for what was reported in the column and considered it an unintended mistake, and promised to investigate the matter.
For his part, deputy chairman of SPLM-N-Agar , Yasir Arman called on women activists and political activists in civil and political organizations to raise issues of racism, stop bullying against women, stop racist rhetoric of the previous regime, alongsides promoting values ​​of national unity as well as work hard to build a new Sudan.
