March 6, 2020 (Nyala) Bakery owners in Nyala, South Darfur have revealed suspicions of corruption in the distribution of subsidized flour  to  the bakeries,  calling on the state government to intervene to review the distribution process.

The bakery owners organized  a protest in front of the office of the governor of South Darfur, during which they delivered a memorandum to the governor, Major General Hashim Khaled Mahmoud, in which they demanded the removal of the intermediaries of flour distribution  between companies and bakery owners in order to prevent corruption, in addition to issuing a decision to increase a new tariff for bread prices.

The government subsidizes the flour by about 50% and distributes it to bakeries at a price of 900 pounds for a sack weighing 50 kg, while its actual  price in the black market is about 2000 pounds.

Representative of bakery owners, Ezz El-Din Babiker Abdullah, said that  lack of justice in the flour distribution mechanism , contributed greatly to the aggravation of the bread crisis in the city of Nyala.

Ezz El-Din Babiker accused the state’s flour and fuel distribution mechanism of practicing the unfair approach when distributing flour to the bakeries.

Ezz El-Din Babiker Abdullah said  that  bakery owners had staged  Wednesday, a sit  in front of the offices of the flour distribution mechanism, but no one  not paid any attention to their demands, so they decided to refer the matter to the State’s governor
