March 31, 2020 (Khartoum) UN Security Council has approved a draft resolution submitted by Germany, Britain and Northern Ireland, to extend mandate of the joint mission of the United Nations and African Union (UNAMID) until the end of next May.

According to the Sudan News Agency, SUNA, the draft resolution which presented to the council Monday, stated that during this period, UNAMID will retain all its positions and human cadres, while setting other measures regarding the exit strategy  after expiration of the period.

The draft resolution stipulated that the Security Council should  issue a new resolution in this regard before the end of next May.

Last october, 2019  UN Security Council had unanimously  adopted Resolution 2495 of 2019 that UNAMID should maintain its current level of troops and police until March 31, 2020.

The resolution to extend UNAMID authorization until May,  came after the expiration of its  current  mandate on Monday, 30 March 2020.
