August 6, 2020 (Khartoum) The United Nations have revealed that 50 thousand people have been affected by the torrents and floods that hit large parts of Sudan.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the rains and torrential rains that hit large parts of the states have led to landslides and damage to homes and infrastructure in at least 14 of the 18 states across the country.

More than 50,000 people have been affected in West Kordofan, South Kordofan, Sennar, Jazira, South  Darfur, East Darfur, North Darfur, Red Sea, Blue Nile, White Nile, River Nile, Khartoum, Kassala and the
northern states, according to preliminary data from the government’s Humanitarian Aid Commission.

The numbers are expected to rise as the results of more assessments become available.

The Sudanese Meteorological Authority has warned that heavy rains will be expected during August and September in most parts of the country, which could lead to more floods and displacement.
