November 30, 2020 (Khartoum) The head of Sudan Liberation Army, Minni Arko Minawi, has requested the US Chargé d’Affairs to Khartoum Brian Shawkan to extend mandate of UNAMID mission in Darfur region.
Minawi met with the Chargé d’Affairs at the headquarters of the American Embassy in the suburb of Soba on Monday, and the two parties discussed supporting the peace and transition process and providing training opportunities for youth and women.
Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said earlier that his government is able to shoulder its responsibility in maintaining security and safety of civilians in Darfur after the exit of UNAMID scheduled for the end of December.
