Darfur24-E-Geneina

The two parties to the tribal fighting in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, have expressed their acceptance to the popular initiative that aims to end hostilities between them in preparation for a comprehensive reconciliation.

Spokesperson for the initiative Al-Tayyib Suleiman said in statements to Darfur 24 that this initiative came to stop the frictions and problems that have become recurring in the city of El-Geneina, claiming lives and disrupting development and the economy.

“The initiative is led by all tribes in the region with the exception of the two parties to the conflict” Al-Tayyib added.

Al-Tayyib referred to the importance of imposing state authority throughout the state, explaining that they are now working to convince warring parties to stop hostilities and prepare for reconciliation.

Arab communities have staged a sit-in in downtown El-Geneina since January 20, blocking roads and bridges leading to the city, and the protest has caused a complete paralysis in the city.
