Khartoum, Jan.31(Darfur24) The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Sudan recently received some 6 million British pounds (8.24 million U.S. dollars) from the UK Aid to support vulnerable families in the country.

According to a statement by the United Nations today, Monday, this flexible funding will enable the World Food Program to provide emergency food and cash assistance to vulnerable Sudanese families suffering from food insecurity, in addition to providing school meals for girls and boys in primary schools in areas affected by conflict and disasters.

Eddie Rowe, WFP Representative and Country Director in Sudan: “One in four people in Sudan suffers from acute hunger.”
He added: “We are very grateful to the UK for this contribution, which comes at a critical time in a country where humanitarian needs are increasing, and the resources available are insufficient.

According to the WFP, its funding shortfalls are estimated at 310 million dollars.
