Calm returned to the city of El Geneina, capital of West Darfur, on Tuesday, after the leaders of the conflicting parties committed themselves to calm down and cease hostilities.

Yesterday, Monday, the city witnessed armed clashes between elements of the Sudanese Alliance Movement headed by the state’s governor, Khamis Abdullah, and the Rapid Support Forces, as an extension of the battles that took place in the city of Karinak 80 kilometers east of the city of El Geneina, which left more than 151 dead and dozens more  wounded.

Darfur24 has learned that Sultan of  Darmasalit, the leader of the Native Administration in West Darfur, Saad Bahr al-Din, communicated with the leaders of the parties to the conflict, (the Arab and Masalit tribes), and the two sides committed themselves not to attack.

On the other hand, Darfur 24 sources reported that the governor of West Darfur, head of the Sudanese Alliance Movement, committed that he would control his movement’s elements, and that they would not do any hostile action, and also committed to the Rapid Support Forces to hand them over the car that his movement seized from the Rapid Support Forces on Monday.
