El-Geneina, June 7 (Darfur24)Eyewitnesses told to Darfur 24 that the
battles between the Arab tribes and the Qamar tribe renewed on
Tuesday, and heavy weapons were heard in the areas adjacent to the
village of “Um Hariz” in Kulbus locality, north of El Geneina, the
capital of West Darfur.
The areas of Umm Kadida and Umm Hurri had witnessed tribal fighting
that claimed the lives of a number of people, whose statistics are
still uncertain, while the accounts of the causes of the conflict have
not been clarified.
Meanwhile, Sultan Al-Qamar Hashem Othman Hashem said – in a statement
seen by Darfur24 that on the morning of Monday, a group of the
Rizeigat tribe, armed with heavy weapons, attacked defenseless
citizens in the villages of “Umm Kadeida and Umm Hariz” of Kulbus
locality, which resulted in the killing of ten civilians.
Hashem indicated that the situation portends dire consequences if the
responsible authorities in the center and the state do not urgently
remedy the situation, and appealed to the Sovereignty Council to
intervene urgently to stop the fighting between the two parties.
For its part, the Higher Coordination of Nomads in West Darfur State
said that two people from the Qamar tribe, using a motorcycle, shot
two nomads who were cleaning their farm, killing one and wounding the
other, while the perpetrators fled.
