Nyala,  June 19(Darfur24) Employees of financial offices in government
institutions in South Darfur have announced a general strike, starting
tomorrow, Monday, until next Sunday, in protest of the government’s
failure to respond to their demands .

Hundreds of workers in the institutions organized a protest stand this
morning in front of the Ministry of Finance to announce the start of a
general strike for a week.

Salwa Muhammad, a member of the Higher Committee for Workers’ Rights
Demand, told Darfur 24 that the demanding bodies in government
institutions in the state reached an agreement to enter into a
comprehensive, non-stop strike in all institutions and localities, and
stressed that their demand for their rights is a union action that
does not have political backgrounds.

A member of the Higher Committee for the Claiming of Rights, Ammar
Ahmed Mohamed, explained to Darfur 24 that the vigils have entered
their fourth week without the authorities responding to the
protesters’ demands, stressing that entering into a comprehensive
strike for a week is subject to addition and exceptions to emergencies
in the teaching hospital and some health institutions.

Employees working in state institutions are calling on the government
to reform the salary structure, implement the new structure, pay the
differences in the new salary structure from January, and arrears of
meal allowance for the previous four months.
