Elfashir, July 1(Darfur24) Hundreds of protesters  from El Fasher, the
capital of North Darfur, participated in the June 30th memorial
procession at Nabd Al Hayat Square in the city center.

Protesters  chanted slogans and raised banners calling for the army
to be dismissed and power to be handed over to civilians, while the
security forces used excessive force to disperse the demonstrators.

Security forces fired live bullets and tear gas extensively, injuring
a number of demonstrators with varying degrees of wounds .

The Darfur 24 correspondent in El Fasher quoted eyewitnesses as saying
that the security forces launched a massive arrest campaign against a
number of protesters , after chasing them in the city’s neighborhoods.

It is noteworthy that the resistance committees in El Fasher and the
anti-coup forces called for their members  to take  to the streets  on
July 3, in refusal to visit by the  head of the Sovereignty Council
to El Fasher to attend  the graduation carnival of the Special Forces
for the Protection of Civilians in Darfur.
