Nyala, August 11(Darfur24) Torrential rains caused the collapse of 1,200 houses in Kalma camp for the displaced people  in Bilil locality, South Darfur state, 7 km east of Nyala, the state capital.

 

Large parts of the Bilil  locality were affected by torrential rains and floods on  Wednesday, which led to collapse of homes and destruction properties.

 

The Executive Director of Bilil locality, Harun Omar, told Darfur 24 that the parallel railway line caused water retention and some drifting towards the camp, which led to the complete damage of Center 8 and denied any loss of life, while emergency teams are counting the properties that were lost due to the torrential rains.

 

The head of Kalma camp for the displaced, Ishaq Muhammad Abdullah, appealed to the organizations working in the humanitarian field and the relevant authorities to visit the camp to assess the situation and then provide humanitarian aid to the affected people.
