Khartoum, August 11(Darfur24) On Thursday, the United Nations revealed that six people were killed and an unconfirmed number injured, as a result of the torrential rains that hit Central Darfur state last week.

 

According to a report by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least six people were killed, and an unconfirmed number of people were injured when their homes collapsed due to heavy rains or were swept away by torrential rains. About 2,800 homes were destroyed and more than 1,620 homes were damaged.

 

The rains and floods also damaged 63 water sources, 73 wells, as well as an uncertain number of farms affecting people’s livelihoods.

About 28,000 people have been affected by torrential rains and flash floods in Central Darfur over the past few weeks, according to the government’s Humanitarian Aid Commission, humanitarian partners on the ground, and other local sources.

 

Since the start of the rainy season in May, an estimated 38,000 people across Sudan have been affected by torrential rains and floods.

 

The rainy season usually lasts until September with peak rainfall and floods observed between August and September In 2021 no one was affected by floods in Central Darfur, while in 2020 about 25,600 people were affected
