Khartoum, October 26(Darfur24) Senior leaders of the foreign relations committees in the US Senate and House of Representatives called for holding accountable those responsible for violations against the Sudanese who peacefully  protested on Tuesday  marking the  first anniversary of the army’s coup that ousted   the civilian government  of Hamadouk.

 

In a statement seen by Darfur24, the two committees affirmed their support for the Sudanese people and their unremitting efforts to establish a democratic government. The statement called on the military to hand over power to a civilian leadership.

 

Hundreds of thousands of took to the street in a number of Sudanese cities in protests coinciding with the first anniversary of the October 25 coup, during which the demonstrators demanded an end to the coup and the restoration of power to civilians to complete the process of democratic transition.

 

Security forces confronted the processions  of protesters using tear gas, sound bombs, and rubber bullets, which caused dozens of injuries, while one of the demonstrators died as a result of being run over by a police vehicle in Omdurman.
