Elfashir, September 2 ( Darfur24) A convoy of the United Nations humanitarian assistance arrived Saturday in Elfashir, the provincial capital of North Darfur state..

The twenty five -truck convoy was received in Elfashir by senior officials from Darfur regional government as well as leading figures from South and North Darfur governments.

The convoy which was supported by the United Nations agencies working in Sudan, included 23 trucks loaded with improved seeds supported by United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation FAO, in addition to two trucks loaded with medication, one donated by the United Nations high commission for refugees UNHCR while the other one supported by the world Health organisation WHO .

Spokesperson for the United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs OCHA, Amanda Brice told Darfur 24 that this was the first convoy to be dispatched by OCHA to North Darfur.

“Convoys of humanitarian aid also arrived in other parts of Darfur through Chadian border with Sudan, including East and West Darfur ” she said.

“The humanitarian community is committed to continue efforts of expanding delivery of humanitarian assistance throughout Sudan. concluded Amanda”

The office for coordination of humanitarian affairs OCHA said earlier that despite of the ongoing fighting it had worked over the past three months to facilitate movement of more than 1000 trucks loaded with relief aid to various parts of Sudan .

UN under-secretary for humanitarian affairs Martin Griffith said last Tuesday that UN had allocated 20 million dollars for ( Central Fund of emergency response)

The five-months old conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF has forced 3.6 million people to flee their homes , in addition to the killing of 3 thousands civilians.
