Port Sudan, November ( Darfur 24)

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Darfur Regional Government, Dr. Babiker Hamdeen, revealed that a large number of hospitals, health and treatment centers have been out of service due to being subjected to bombing, looting and vandalism.

Hamdeen said in an interview conducted with Darfur 24 that the displacement of doctors due to the lack of security, the non-payment of their salaries, the severe shortage of medicines, and the looting or sabotage of medical devices and equipment caused the closure of a large number of hospitals.

Expressing his fear of a health catastrophe, especially with the beginning of some epidemics in different regions of the region.

Hamdeen called on the World Health Organization, the United Nations and its branches in humanitarian work to intervene urgently, especially since the medical aid provided is very weak compared to the size of the requirements.

He continued: “All states of Darfur were affected by the war and its consequences, including the cessation of government institutions from working and the disruption of trade, markets, and transportation.”
