Exclusive Darfur 24

A source in the armed struggle movements, who preferred to his identity to be kept anonymous, revealed that Lieutenant General Abboud Adam Khater, the second commander of the Sudan Liberation Forces, was subjected to an assassination attempt at the headquarters of the command staff in the city of El Fasher last Monday.

The source stated that the assassination attempt occurred during a meeting of the leadership of the Sudan Liberation Forces, headed by Abboud Adam Khater, where the discussion heated up between him and one of the officers, which later developed into a fist fight, and then the officer drew his weapon before he was controlled and the situation was contained.

The source reserved to mention the details of the dispute, but he hinted that a proposal for the Sudanese army to leave the city of El Fasher was on the discussion agenda and may have been a reason for the disagreements that developed into a clash.

Darfur 24’s follow-ups indicate that Lieutenant General Abboud Adam Khater, one of the military commanders in the joint force of the armed movements, held a meeting with the second commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Abdul Rahim Dagalo, last November regarding the situation in the city of El Fasher.

In addition, a statement was issued on behalf of Dar Berry’s management denouncing the attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Abboud Adam Khater, last Monday.

However, the Sudan Liberation Army Forces denied in a statement that Abboud had been subjected to an assassination at the hands of an officer, explaining that the aforementioned meeting had actually been held and that there had been a serious and regular discussion, communication, and achieved its goals, according to the statement.

He said, “Talk about an assassination attempt is baseless and the goal is to undermine the unity and cohesion of the movement.”

There are many positions within the Sudan Liberation Forces group. While the movement, led by the member of the Sovereignty Council dismissed by the Sudanese army commander, Al-Tahir Hajar, adheres to a position of neutrality regarding the ongoing war, the movement’s army chief of staff, Abdullah Janna, is involved in supporting the army in its fight against the Rapid Support Forces.

The position of Abdullah Janna, Secretary of Political Affairs of the movement, is supported by Salah Hamid Al-Wali, who appeared last November with “Minawi and Jibril Ibrahim” in a press conference in Port Sudan in which they announced their departure from the position of neutrality and alignment with the Sudanese army.
