Port Sudan, March 12(Darfur 24) 7 officers from the armed forces, who were captured by the Rapid Support Forces, have managed to escape from their detention center in the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, and 4 of them arrived in Chad.
The Rapid Support Forces took control of the 15th Division of the Sudanese Army in El Geneina, on November 4, 2023, after fierce fighting.
The Rapid Support captured a large number of army personnel and officers working in the 15th Division, following its control of it, and placed them in detention centers in El Geneina.
Military sources told “Darfur 24” that seven officers with the ranks of lieutenant and first lieutenant, who were captured during the battles in the vicinity and headquarters of the 15th Division, were able to escape from a detention center located in the Customs neighborhood, west of the city of El Geneina.
She indicated that the Rapid Support was able to recapture three of them inside the city of El Geneina, while the other 4 fled to enter Chadian territory, which is about 25 kilometers from the city.
This escape to Chad is the second of its kind, as Chadian Defense Minister Daoud Yaya Ibrahim announced on April 20, 2023, that 320 Sudanese soldiers had crossed his country’s borders with their weapons stripped of them.
