Alsalam , March 17(Darfur 24)

The killing and wounding of camel herdsmen and farmers in the Wadi Towal area in Al Salam locality of South Darfur state has raised fears of a tribal conflict erupting in the state, which is under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.

Two camel herders belonging to the Abala Rizeigat tribe and eight farmers belonging to the Mararit, Sharfa, Qamar, and Fallata tribes were killed on Wednesday, when the herders brought camels into winter farms.

Citizen Muhammad Hamidan told “Darfur 24” on Saturday that “a quarrel occurred between shepherds and farmers before it turned into armed confrontations.”

He pointed out that local leaders from the areas of Tulus, Ad Al-Fursan, Al-Salam, and Katila intervened to contain the situation before it worsened.

He explained that the leaders formed a committee that deported the camel herders to another location, as civil customs require the perpetrators to be deported to other areas to avoid widespread retaliation.

The Wadi Twal region is considered one of the most fertile areas in which farmers from many regions grow vegetables and fruits, and shepherds also go there for the purpose of watering their livestock, while some of them intentionally bring their livestock into the farms.
