Sudanese army warplanes continue airstrikes on Darfur

Nyala, April 5(Darfur24)A Sudanese army air strike on Wednesday night, on the city of Nyala, destroyed parts of the city’s only bridge linking southern part of the city to the north.

On Wednesday night, Sudanese army warplanes launched intensive airstrikes on a number of cities and towns in Darfur region, including “Al-Fasher, Nyala, Melit, Al-Zarq, Umm Al-Qura, and Al-Fasher.”

The air strike on the city of Nyala caused significant damage to the Mecca Bridge. The bombing also destroyed the western part of the guest house and the western parts of the grand market in Nyala overlooking the 16th Infantry Division Command. The cafeteria and water purification station in the vicinity of the Army Command were affected.

A medical source revealed to “Darfur 24” that three casualties as a result of the bombing had arrived at the Turkish Hospital. He did not identify them as civilians or military personnel, while sources indicated that four other casualties had arrived at the Specialized Hospital.

The targeting of the Nyala Valley Bridge, famous as the Mecca Bridge, was widely condemned by the residents of the city of Nyala, as it is the only artery linking the north of the city to its south.

The bridge was built by the Germans when the late Ibrahim Derej was governor of the Darfur region during the government of the late President Jaafar Muhammad Numeiri.

The official spokesman for the Revolutionary Front, Ahmed Braimah, said in detail that the military aircraft bombing last night on the city of Nyala and large parts of the Darfur region, targeting citizens, infrastructure and the social fabric, especially in Nyala, in that it coincided with a conference for peaceful coexistence in Nyala, stopping conflicts and stopping bloodshed.

Details told “Darfur 24” that Nyala has a single bridge and targeting it means disrupting development and infrastructure. He added, “We hope that the conflicting parties will show some kind of morality.”

In El Fasher, an Antonov plane flew in the sky of the city for more than half an hour, and an explosion was heard north of the city, along with intense anti-aircraft sounds from the Rapid Support Forces to confront the plane.

Eyewitnesses from the city of Melit, 65 km north of El Fasher, said that warplanes launched an air strike on the positions of the Rapid Support Forces in the eastern gate of the city, without Darfur 24 being able to confirm any casualties among the Rapid Support Forces.

While a citizen from the Zarq desert, Hassan Muhammad Rabih, confirmed to “Darfur 24” that the aircraft bombed the area and targeted an empty religious retreat and some houses around it, without causing any casualties.

He said that some citizens returned to the city during the month of Ramadan after abandoning it earlier due to repeated military aircraft strikes.

He stated that citizens reconstructed the market to live their lives despite the aircraft targeting water sources. He added, “Displacement will resume again for fear of being exposed to the bombing that targeted the area 9 times since the outbreak of the war in April last year.”
