El Fasher , April 16 (Darfur 24)

13 civilians were killed and at least 9 others were wounded, in the fiercest confrontations between the Sudanese army and armed movements on one side and the Rapid Support Forces on the other side in the city of El Fasher, North Darfur.

Clashes renewed between the Sudanese army and the joint force of the armed movements against the Rapid Support Forces, and continued until the afternoon in the northern and eastern neighborhoods and the vicinity of the Abshuk camp for displaced people in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, with columns rising in the Al Wahda neighborhood.

Battles broke out between the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudanese army, and the joint force consisting of the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Minni Arko Minawi, the Justice and Equality Movement, led by Jibril Ibrahim, and factions that broke away from the Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council and the Sudan Liberation Forces Rally.

A member of the El Fasher emergency room, Mohamed Adam Mohamed, confirmed to Darfur 24 that 13 deaths and more than 11 injuries had been recorded in a number of neighborhoods in El Fasher city.

He said that 9 civilians were killed by a shell that fell on their house in the Abshok Al-Hilla neighborhood, and 7 were wounded immediately and were transferred to Al-Fasher Southern Hospital. He added, “There are 2 dead and 2 wounded from the Tijaniya neighborhood, east of the Grand Market, and a number of those wounded by stray bullets.”

He pointed out that injuries are still coming to the hospital, stressing the lack of accurate statistics regarding the transfer of some of the wounded to neighborhood health centers and the difficulty of transporting them to the Southern Hospital due to the lack of means of transportation and the city’s security fragility.

He stated that today’s battles witnessed the burning of a number of houses in the Al-Wahda neighborhood, causing property losses, adding that today’s battles are the most violent since the start of the war, as the parties exchanged shells in all neighborhoods of the city.

Air drop

In addition, a military source in the 6th Infantry Division, El Fasher, who preferred to withhold his name, revealed to “Darfur 24” the arrival of military supplies that were dropped from the air via a large cargo plane, consisting of modern drones, ammunition, and communications devices. He said that the landing of the supplies was carried out with the support and coverage of a Sukhoi plane.

Rapid support fired heavy anti-aircraft guns at the parachutes carrying supplies.

From time to time, El Fasher witnesses fierce battles between the army and the Rapid Support, which are trying to control the city, while the army works to paralyze its military capabilities through military aircraft raids and provisions for cooperation with the armed movements to defend the capital of North Darfur.

The army base in El Fasher is the only one that did not fall at the hands of the Rapid Support Forces in Darfur, after they took control of all army headquarters in the rest of the cities of the region.
