March 10, 2020 (Nyala) The State Ministry of Health in South Darfur has requested the central government in Khartoum, not to authorize the landing of an Egyptian flight at Nyala International Airport.
The plane which carrying soldiers from the African Union and United Nations Mission in Darfur UNAMID is set to land tomorrow.
However, the State Health Ministry fears transmission of the disease to Sudan ,following increase in number of infections in Egypt.
Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mohamed Idris, said that the ministry will not be able to receive the Egyptian flight, due to information from the World Health Organization that the number of coronavirus cases in Egypt have reached 55.
In a letter addressed to a number of institutions, including Nyala International Airport , Dr. Mohamed Idris stated that his ministry would not allow the Egyption flight carrying UNAMID Personnels to land at Nyala International airport.
“We have taken this step in order to avoid the transmission of the infectious disease to Sudan, in addition to lack of necessary capabilities to deal with cases of the Coronavirus, as well as lack of isolation wards, in the event of any possible infection” concluded Director General of the Ministry of Health.
