June 4, 2020 -On Wednesday, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted two resolutions, one of which stipulated the formation of a political mission in Khartoum whose mission is to support the transitional government in Sudan, while the second demanded  that the mission of UNAMID in  Darfur region be extended until at least the end  of the year, according to diplomats.

The draft resolution to form the new political mission known as UNITAMS, was presented  by Germany and Britain and  unanimously adopted by  the Security  council.

However, once this resolution is adopted, the Security Council will decide to establish an integrated United Nations mission to assist in the transitional period in Sudan for an initial period of 12 months.

The resolution demands that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, swiftly appoint an envoy to head this new mission.

Sudan  has been ruled by a coalition of  civilian-military government, since the overthrow of president Al Bashir in a nationwide revolution in  2019.
