Darfur 24, has learned that  leader of the armed militia in Darfur,Ali Kushayb, has been  arrested by the United  Nations forces in the Central Africa Republic.

According to the source , the arrest of Kushayb was carried out in coordination between the United Nations Mission in Central Africa Republic  and a tribal leader  of one of the tribes in the country.

However, officials of the United Nations Mission in Central Africa   “MINUSCA with whom Darfur 24 had contacted, refused to confirm or deny the news, while other sources said that Kushayb was arrested in  border town of Birao on   Sudanese   Central African border.

Community leaders from the area     told Darfur 24, that a helicopter had landed in area  with the Attorney General of the Central African Republic accompanied by representatives of the International Criminal
Court office, and took a Sudanese citizen wanted by ICC and then left for the capital Bangui.

Kushayb faces charges of killing hundreds of citizens in the Shataya and Kailek areas, at the start of the war in Darfur in 2003-2004, in addition to playing   a leading role  tribal fighting  in Rihaid Al-Bardi locality, between  Taaisha and Salamat tribes.

The militia leader,  admitted in a video that went viral, that he had committed murders using internationally prohibited weapons.

Addressing his tribe men on the Sudanese Chadian boarder, Ali said ” What has been circulated by media outlet , that I have committed war crimes is true”
