The governor of South Darfur State , Musa Mahdi, said the armed forces managed to repel an attempted attack by armed groups on the villages of Al-Tawil and Abulala east of Gereida.
In a statement to Darfur 24, the governor admitted that the clash between the armed forces and the militants resulted in the injury of a captain, but denied knowledge of any casualties among the militants.
The southern parts of South Darfur state are witnessing security turmoil these days , due to the renewed inter-tribal fighting between the Masalit , Fallata and the Rizeigat tribes.
However, he inter-communal violence this week has left more than 50 people dead or wounded.
The government has deployed large troops in the area to contain armed confrontations between tribes.
