The Darfur Bar Association DBA said the recent incident in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, were the result of the state’s failure at the central level to develop a real strategic plan to disarm all armed militias. Meanwhile DBA called for the necessity of investigating the Army Commander in the state, in accordance with the Armed Forces Act.
In a statement seen by Darfur 24, DBA said that all the regular forces, including the Rapid Support Forces, had undertaken possible measures to restore matters to normal, adding and it is really unfortunate that the military commander did not respond to the directions of the state’s governor.
The association revealed that absence of the military commander led to expansion of lawlessness, forcing the State governor to declare curfew.
The statement stressed that unless the state proceeds to disarm all armed militias , impose authority and to deter the armed militia members , chaos will prevail in Darfur in light of the proliferation of weapons between armed militias and tribes.
