August 14, 2021 (Khartoum) The head of  Darfur Bar Association, Lawyer Saleh Mahmoud, expected that the investigations to be conducted by the public prosecutor’s team would reveal new defendants and crimes that were not included in the previous indictment.                                                                              The Khartoum headquartered Al-Jarida newspaper quoted Mahmoud as saying that the court team will be in Khartoum to assist victims and witnesses, instead of traveling to the Netherlands, and that interviews with the investigation team will be here in Khartoum.

Salah cautioned that the crimes that took place in Darfur from 2003 to 2009 all fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, in that there were no provisions in the Sudanese criminal law prosecuting war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.

Saleh Mahmoud expressed his satisfaction with the visit of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Mohamed Asad Khan, during which he met a number of Sudanese officials, and Mahmoud said that the general impression of the visit is good.

the new  Prosecutor of the Criminal Court, Asad Khan, had confirmed that the Sudanese government and the Criminal Court agreed on the Sudanese government’s commitment not to obstruct the Criminal Court and facilitate its work, and revealed a future visit to him during the coming period during which he will meet with the victims in Darfur.

Mahmoud  who is originally from Darfur affirmed that the Office of the Prosecutor will continue to work with all parties “victims, survivors, civil society and diplomats” to achieve justice.
