September 1, 2021 (Al-Daein) Farmers in a number of areas of South and East Darfur said that starlings are threatening the agricultural season for this year.

Coordinator of the Services and Change Committees in the Abu Sunidra administrative  Unit, Dalil Ibrahim Hamid, told Darfur 24 that large numbers of birds that threaten farms every year have were seen in the southern areas of Al-Firdaws locality in East Darfur and Al-Santa locality in South Darfur.

Director of the Agricultural Sector at the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in East Darfur, Dr. Saleh Ibrahim Al-Saudi, said that the ministry prepared to combating  birds by providing pesticides and preparing two planes for spraying.

The Director of the Plant Protection Department at the Ministry of Agriculture in South Darfur, Hafez Abu Bakr, explained that his department is closely following the situation of the bird pest in the locality of Al-Santa, and said that the ministry has so far provided 10,000 liters of bird pesticides and will start spraying operations  in due course .

Farmers in Darfur have been complaining about heavy losses caused by agricultural pests in every agricultural season, and they are calling on the government to intervene urgently to save the crops.
