Nyala, October 3(Darfur 24) Six prisoners escaped Saturday,  from Gereida town jail, 86 kilometers south of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur

A police source  told Darfur 24 that the  suspects  broke the back window of the guard at night and managed to escape, without the police officers realizing them, and confirmed that they were still being pursued.

Meanwhile, South Darfur Police Director Major General Mohamed Ahmed El-Zein confirmed to Darfur 24 that the police managed to arrest one of the fugitives, while the search for the other five is still underway.

The police director said none of the fugitives was convicted under article 130 of the Sudanese criminal law.

He said that the accused are facing charges of theft, and added: “Legal and administrative measures have been taken and the rest of the accused suspects are prosecuted, and they are expected to be arrested at any time.”
