Nyala, April 3( Darfur24) A high-ranking Sudanese army officer was killed on Sunday by  unknown armed gang that tried to seize his vehicle in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State

 

A security source told Darfur 24, “ Colonel Abdul-Azim Essa Mustafa, the supply chain officer  in the western military region, was killed Sunday after unidentified gunmen shot him in the “Rahman” neighborhood, northeast of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state.

 

The senior officer  was  threatened to hand over the keys  of his “Land Cruiser V6” car, but he refused, so  he was shot in the shoulder and right arm, then the attackers fled to an unknown destination, according to a source.

 

The source added that the colonel was heading to his office after dropping his kids  children  at  city’s schools when he  was attacked by the unknown gunmen.

 

“The managed to drive the car while he was bleeding until he arrived at the Western Military Command headquarters in the airport neighborhood” the sources further added .

 

A medical source at the Turkish Nyala Hospital confirmed to Darfur24, “The colonel was admitted  to the hospital after he was wounded by a gunshot wound that caused him severe bleeding, as a result of which he died on Sunday evening.

 

The security services carried out security operation in   the area in search of the perpetrators,  however the State Security Committee has not issued a statement on the incident yet.

 

The city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, witnessed several incidents of looting, the latest of which was the looting of the brother of the Director General of the General Intelligence Service and a gold merchant in Al Wahda neighborhood, south of the city.

 

A few weeks ago, an administrative officer and his driver were killed in Kabm locality, west of Nyala, the state capital, and the security authorities have not yet arrested the perpetrators.
