The United Nations announced Monday the arrival of first humanitarian aid convoy to east Darfur since eruption of the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary rapid support forces RSF mid-April.

The UN trucks loaded with 430 tons of agricultural seeds arrived in El-Daein, the provincial capital of East Darfur state after a nine-day journey.

The United Nations office for coordination of humanitarian affairs OCHA had earlier negotiated safe delivery of the consignments from the White Nile State, in Central Sudan to El-Daein in Darfur region.

 

Addressing the daily UN press conference in New York Monday, deputy UN secretary general spokesperson Farhan Haq affirmed the importance of guick delivering of humanitarian assistance to enable all agricultural areas in Darfur benefit from availability of seeds

All parties should let farmers access their agricultural lands and guarantee their protection during farming and harvesting. Failure of the agricultural season will have other catastrophic consequences on the communities in Darfur.
