Cairo, March 19(Darfur 24)On Monday, America’s special envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, held talks with Sudanese politicians and Egyptian officials in the capital, Cairo.

Perriello is embarking on a regional tour in order to implement his mission, which is related to unifying efforts to end the war in Sudan, stop violations, and deliver relief, in addition to enhancing opportunities for civilians in the country.

In the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Perriello met with the head of the Sudanese Congress Party, Omar Al-Digir, the vice-president of the National Umma Party, Maryam Al-Sadiq, and the writer Al-Shafi’a Khidr.

The Sudanese Congress Party said, in a statement obtained by Darfur 24, that the meeting discussed developments in the situation in Sudan, how to coordinate international, regional and local efforts to stop the war and address the humanitarian crisis, and the role that democratic civil forces must play in establishing and sustaining peace.

He pointed out that the envoy stressed his country’s government’s keenness to accelerate the steps to achieve lasting peace in Sudan.

He said that he will continue his efforts during his current regional tour to resume talks to reach a ceasefire and a peaceful solution that will silence the sounds of guns and end the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan.

Periello held a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Samah Shukri.

Shukri said, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that his country had made contacts with the Sudanese parties and held diplomatic meetings with regional and international powers, centered around the necessity of stopping the escalation, reaching a sustainable ceasefire agreement, and preserving the cohesion of the Sudanese state.

He stressed that any future political process should include all national actors in the Sudanese internal arena, and should be conducted within the framework of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, preserving the state, and preventing its disintegration.
